You-Tube in the Classroom: Moving forward with today’s student!

Tue 1:15 – 2:00PM — Foyer 2
Denice Kirchoff, dkirchoff@fairmontstate.edu
Vicki Kerwin RN,

This is a poster presentation promoting the use of you-tube in the classroom as a strategy to enhance the student learning. These videos are short but highly effective as they capture real life events and experiences of people. In nursing for example, clients’ coming out of anesthesia is an example of a strategy to illustrate what the client is experiencing as well as what the nurse would do under these situations. You-tube could be used in other disciplines as well, as I have presented the Topic of Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Pink and illustrated a short, but effective video of Pink himself explaining his ideas on the topic. You-tube is powerful and effective because is does not deal with the traditional time consuming videos often used in the classroom. It is what students relate to best and captures their attention in today’s cyber world.
